CASTLE ROCK — Criminal charges are possible for middle school students who showed nude photos of classmates or forwarded them to other students via cell phones, authorities said Wednesday.

Investigators believe that nude photographs of as many as six students at Castle Rock Middle School were taken as part of a dare, then viewed or forwarded by as many as 50 students, KUSA-TV reported.

“Obviously the concern is these pictures getting on the Internet and available to everybody,” said Douglas County Schools spokeswoman Whei Wong.

Castle Rock police Lt. Douglas Ernst said students could face jail time and fines depending on the intent of the photographs.

The school district said it was trying to determine an appropriate punishment.
