Colorado Crush coach Mike Dailey isn’t about to make too much of his team’s opening-game loss to the Grand Rapids Rampage.

“I’ve always been told that coaches shouldn’t vote early,” Dailey said, looking back on Sunday’s 44-42 loss at the Pepsi Center. “I’ve been coaching a long time, and I’ve learned the best thing is not to rush to judgment.”

In other words, Dailey is focusing on Saturday’s 7 p.m. game against the Kansas City Brigade at the Pepsi Center to see if the Crush can right its season and get to .500.

However, Dailey had a strong opinion about what his team must do to win.

“We have to eliminate the turnovers and the penalties,” Dailey said. “We had three turnovers and 12 penalties, and it’s tough to win in that situation.”

Dailey didn’t believe the number of new players on his roster contributed to the slow start.

“A lot of our problems were created by our veteran players,” Dailey said. “A lot of the errors were made by players who have been with us for some time.”

Veteran quarterback John Dutton threw two interceptions and lost a fumble, but Dailey said the latter turnover was a result of a breakdown in pass protection.

The game against Kansas City will be the second of three consecutive home games to start the season for the Crush. Dailey noted the difficulty of this week’s assignment by pointing out the Brigade beat defending league champion Chicago in the opening week.
