Big-school girls basketballers will begin Colorado’s run of 10 championships today and have the floor at the Coors Events Center and overall stage to themselves.
At 6 p.m. in Class 4A, Harrison will meet Broomfield, a matchup of the Panthers from Colorado Springs thrilled to be in the championship round, against the preseason No. 1 team in The Denver Post/9News 4A poll.
The 5A girls will have next, and the game is potentially historic to both programs.
Highlands Ranch, which has won four of the past seven 5A titles, will be saying “gimme five.”
Opposing Legacy, a newer suburban program riding the stellar senior year of Baylor-bound Melissa Jones, will be in its first title game.
The two girls games will preclude Saturday’s cap to the season that will include five boys titles and three for girls at four sites.
