Qwest Communications International Inc. today said it has signed a five-year, $15 million contract to provide distance-learning service capabilities to students in rural northwest Nebraska.

The Denver-based company said its Internet technology will provide thousands of students access to education.

“Qwest and our other private sector businesses have been valuable partners in helping find an innovative and cost-effective solution for distance learning in our state,” Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy said in a statement.

Qwest is the main telephone service provider in 14 mostly Western states.
