Mexico City – Eight people were killed and 11 were injured Saturday when a bus slammed into a tractor trailer carrying aluminum beams in northern Mexico, a government news agency reported.

The drivers of both vehicles fled the crash scene near the city of Saltillo, 420 miles north of Mexico City, the Notimex news agency said. The bus driver was being sought by authorities.

Police officials were not immediately available to confirm the report.

The eight people killed were passengers aboard the bus. One of the deaths was a 9-year-old boy.
