Ali Flury scored five goals and Karen Morton added four as the No. 16 University of Denver women’s lacrosse team handed host Stony Brook (N.Y.) its first loss of the season, 17-9. The Pioneers (5-1) swept a five-game road swing over the past three weeks. Stony Brook fell to 3-1.
Huffaker leads Pioneers’ gymnastics win
Heather Huffaker won three individual event titles and the all-around title to lead the 14th-ranked University of Denver gymnastics team in edging visiting No. 20 Illinois 194.750-194.525 in front of 1,147 fans at Hamilton Gymnasium.
The Pioneers (10-6) are undefeated at home this season. Huffaker won three events in a single meet – vault, beam and floor exercise – for the first time this season and her sixth all-around win leads the team.
Huffaker has won five event titles and two all-around titles in her past two meets.
NBADL’s Stampede waives ex-Nugget Hodge
Former Nuggets guard Julius Hodge, a first-round pick by Denver in 2005, was waived by the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Development League. Hodge was waived by the Milwaukee Bucks on Feb. 7 and played with the Colorado 14ers earlier this season.
