
Laura Stiers, valedictorian at Nederland High School, has a 4.0 grade-point average.
She was the assistant coordinator of the Nederland Elementary School Choir Camp in 2005 and coordinator the following year.
This is Laura’s second year in the Big Sister/Little Sister program. She mentors an elementary school girl once a week and has been a weekly volunteer at the Nederland Community Library since May.
At school, Laura has been a member of the Nederland High School Select Choir since 2005. She has been active in theater throughout high school, performing in school plays twice a year. She won best actress and best supporting actress awards for her roles.
Laura is a member of the National Honor Society and is an AP Scholar with Honors.
Recent awards she has received include the Mount Holyoke Book Award, the Masonic Junior of the Year and first place for Boulder County in the Good Citizen essay competition of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Laura has been accepted at the University of Chicago, where she plans to major in English with an emphasis on literary publishing.
