A computer snag in Frontier Airlines’ central reservation system caused by the early time change led to long lines and flight delays out of Denver International Airport on Sunday morning, airline spokesman Joe Hodas said.

The annual one-hour jump forward for daylight-saving time, which came three weeks earlier this year, stalled the reservation computer about 6:30 a.m., he said.

The airline was forced to switch to manual ticketing, causing long lines and flight delays up to 45 minutes, Hodas said.

While some areas of the system had the correct times, some didn’t, creating a clash of schedules and an eventual deadlock, he said.

“The computer has lots of parts and pieces,” Hodas said. “When one piece says this information doesn’t make sense, then the whole thing can shut down on you.”

The computer was fixed by 9 a.m., and flights had resumed normal schedules by mid-afternoon, he said.

DIA spokesman Steve Snyder said the rest of the airport experienced no difficulties because of the time change, and no other delays were reported.

Ski patrol members led the group to the bottom of the mountain, a three-hour trip through heavy snow, streams and forest.
