HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo.-

A 78-year-old man missing for three days was found early Thursday in a parking lot in San Diego, Douglas County sheriff’s officials said.

Roger Mattoon, who suffers from Alzheimer’s and dementia, was last seen walking in his neighborhood Monday afternoon, said Cocha Heyden, a sheriff’s spokeswoman. A citizen in San Diego noticed Mattoon and called for medical attention.

Heyden said sheriff’s investigators had contacted the Veterans Administration to flag Mattoon as a missing person. His only identification was a VA card, which alerted hospital staff to his plight.

Heyden said it appears Mattoon board a Greyhound bus for his trip to San Diego.
