The winner: Jerry and Ricki Pezoldt, Colorado Springs
We do love the park on Main Street in Frisco where this work of art stands. One afternoon, we walked over to the park with our three grandchildren. We looked at the arrow in the hindquarter of the bear and the shameful look on the face of the little Indian with his bow and arrows behind his back. Then we talked about what must have happened. It was fun to hear the thoughts of our grandchildren about the topic of forgiveness and the pain that we inflict on others and others upon us.
An answer in verse: Ellie Moller, 14, Boulder
I stare thoughtfully at The girl still wearing Buffalo skins and feathers
We are frozen, watching
From the Historical Park
120 Main Street in Frisco
We are a mountain
Gazing silently
At those who pass:
A fall leaf
A giggling toddler
The Native American and I
Are companions
Lost in time
We watch warm rain
Dancing snow
Laughing sunlight
We see blonde
Change to grey
But for us,
We are always
The same
