NEW NOOKS AND CRANNIES
Liege Waffles
theliegewafflefactory.com
Gotta love the global village. Especially when it brings us closer to the gourmet Belgian waffles Motti Thaler creates at his Denver factory. Thaler moved here more than a decade ago bringing along his iron and some traditional recipes from his homeland. His sweet, doughy waffles sell frozen at area stores, delis and coffee houses. There’s a list of retailers on the website.
LIGHT MY (LOCAL) FIRE
Colorado Forest Products firewood
$5 for a 15-pound bundle at metro 7-Eleven stores
On the cusp of backyard campfire season, United Wood Products in Longmont has started selling handy bundles of firewood cut from stands of pine-beetle-killed Colorado timber between Interstate 70 and the Wyoming state line. Look for the CFP label and you’ll know your little blaze is going a long way toward keeping the state’s wildfire season from getting out of control.
THE BIG SCOOP
Now you do your duty …
Berkeley Dog Park
Near the lake at Berkeley Park, West 46th Avenue at Sheridan Boulevard, Denver
No joke: Dog-loving Denverites will tackle a little problem that is, um, piling up in Berkeley Dog Park during April Stools’ Day, 1- 3 p.m. on April 1. And because no one really likes to pick up poop, there will be lots of incentives hidden around the park – not too close to the real surprises left behind by Fido – and if you find one, you might win a prize. BYO shovel, rake or scooper.
