Denver ranks in the top five cities in America for its “Urban Life” in a new Men’s Journal survey of 50 “best places” to live.
The city’s median downtown apartment rent of $1,200 and surging city center, along with a thriving LoDo neighborhood and nightlife were among the features cited.
Other cities in the category included Austin, TX; Philadelphia; San Diego and Portland, OR.
The Journal’s April edition will feature communities rated by affordability, employment prospects and quality of life.
Other Colorado towns also ranked in the survey.
In the “Best Hideaways” category – defined as an “outdoorsman’s paradise” with practical living – the mountain town of Basalt made the top 10.
With a population of 3,000, Basalt’s proximity to Aspen and idyllic setting caught the magazine’s eye.
“Basalt is the kind of place where people move to change their lives – and to make alpine sports a primary part of them,” said the Journal.
“It’s like getting Aspen at half the price and with none of the attitude.”
Others in the hideaway category included Fernandina Beach, FL; Truckee, CA; Dahlonega, GA; Ojai, CA; Truth or Consequences, NM; and Mount Gretna, PA.
Boulder made the Journal’s list of top five “Healthiest Places,” along with Santa Ana, CA; San Jose, CA; Bethesda, MD; and Flagstaff, AZ.
Writers and editors across the country were polled in compiling the list, according to the Journal.
