The Oregon women’s basketball team will try to do tonight what only one team (Brigham Young) has accomplished this season: beat Wyoming on its home court.

The Ducks (17-13) visit Laramie for a third-round Women’s National Invitation Tournament game, and coach Bev Smith will be coaching against a team similar to the Ducks. Both play motion offenses with multiple scoring options. Forward Eleanor Haring (12.7 points per game) is the only Duck scoring in double figures, but five other players average six points or better, and nine players average at least 15 minutes per game.

Wyoming (23-9) has six players scoring six points or more per game, led by Hanna Zavecz (13.5), Justyna Podziemska (12.9) and Jodi Bolerjack (11.6), and eight players average at least 10 minutes.

Motorsports Hall of Famers inducted

The Colorado Motorsports Hall of Fame inducted its class of 2007 on Wednesday night. Receiving the honor were Art Ward, who won a NHRA Indy Nationals and a Rocky Mountain Funny Car Championship; Eddie Jackson, winner of 77 Rocky Mountain Midge Racing Association races; Mark Williams, a car builder specializing in drag racing; Windy Windholz, an oval-track specialist born in 1923 who still races modifieds on dirt tracks; Junior Kaiser, winner of two NHRA top fuel championships; Bill Hill, a track manager and author of two books on midget racing; Sonny Coleman, winner of 14 RMMRA races and the 1950 championship; Buddy Shay, winner of 30 RMMRA feature races; and Johnny Pachello, a car owner and engine builder whose cars won 14 championships at Lakeside Speedway.

DU rallies to beat Cornell in lacrosse

The University of Denver women’s lacrosse team broke a 13-13 tie with the last four goals of the game for a 17-13 victory over Cornell (2-4) on Wednesday in College Park, Md.

Senior midfielder Kristie Leggio broke the tie off a feed from Ali Flury, who had three goals for the No. 15 Pioneers (8-1). Leggio tied her school record with five assists.
