The Buffalo Bandits (8-4) ended the Colorado Mammoth’s six-game winning streak, 19-15, in Buffalo, N.Y.
The Mammoth (10-2) had an 8-7 halftime lead, but could not contain Buffalo’s John Tavares, the National Lacrosse League’s all-time leading scorer, who finished with seven goals and six assists. Dan Carey led the Mammoth with four goals, all in the first half, and Brian Langtry tallied three goals and four assists.
Littleton’s Washburn wins gold
Brad Washburn of Littleton won his first gold medal at the U.S. Disabled Alpine Championships at Waterville Valley, N.H., claiming the crown in the men’s slalom standing race. Ian Jansing of Granby was third.
Elizabeth Miller of Winter Park finished second in the women’s standing slalom, and Hannah Pennington of Denver was third.
Also taking a silver medal was Gerald Hayden of Winter Park, in the men’s sit-ski slalom.
Lakewood lineman signs with Chadron St.
Sean McGowan of Lakewood High School will play football at Chadron State. The three-year starter at center joins teammate Donnie Reed, a wide receiver, who also committed to the Eagles.
