Crash pushes parked SUV into living room

A parked Chevrolet Blazer was pushed into a living room when it was struck by another car, police said.

The crash occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Grant Street in Longmont when, police said, the driver of a 1998 Ford Taurus lost control of his car.

Police said the Taurus was moving fast southbound on Grant when the driver ended up crossing all lanes and crashed into the Blazer.

The SUV was parked in the driveway at the time and was pushed into the living room.

Police identified Joshua James Morgan, 21, of Fort Lupton as the driver. He had a passenger, 19-year-old Zachrey Harris of Brighton. The two men were taken to Longmont United Hospital with injuries.

The house that the SUV was pushed into has major damage, police said.

RTD directors to mull FasTracks financing

RTD directors on Tuesday night will consider a proposal to explore a variety of quasi-privatization schemes that could help reduce the soaring cost of the agency’s FasTracks project.

In late 2004, metro Denver voters approved the Regional Transportation District’s plan to build at least six new rail lines in the area along with other transit improvements. The price tag was pegged at $4.7 billion at the time.

Since then, rising construction costs and more detailed studies of the proposed trains have escalated the potential expense of FasTracks by at least $2 billion, according to one preliminary analysis of the project.

The Federal Transit Administration has a pilot program to examine the role of “public-private partnerships” in building train lines more efficiently and RTD should try to win FTA support for the alternate way of constructing and operating transit lines, agency officials say.

RTD directors will vote on a proposal to hire investment bankers to assist the agency in considering such partnerships for “one or more FasTracks corridors” to help deliver the transit expansion project “in a timely fashion and within budget.”
