The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League, 8-4 losers to the Arizona Sundogs on Saturday, earned the Northern Conference’s No. 2 seed and will face the No. 7 Youngstown SteelHounds with home-ice advantage beginning Friday at 7 p.m. at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland.
The Eagles finished the regular season 46-17-1, the most wins in franchise history. But they needed Bossier-Shreveport to lose Sunday to earn the conference’s top seed. The Mudbugs defeated Youngstown 6-4.
Dorian Anneck scored two goals and had an assist and Matic Kralj added three assists in a five-goal first period as the Rocky Mountain Rage beat the Southwest Division champion New Mexico Scorpions 5-2 at the Broomfield Event Center. The Rage snapped a six-game winless streak and finished its inaugural season 17-40-7 with 41 points, the worst record in the CHL.
Indiana golfer medalist in CU tournament
Indiana’s Elaine Harris topped Oklahoma’s Kendall Dye by two shots to win the University of Colorado MountainView Collegiate in Catalina, Ariz.
Harris finished with a three-round total of 209. Dye was second at 211. Denver’s Katie Kempter also shot 211, but Dye prevailed in a scorecard playoff. Colorado’s Julie Kim was seventh (215).
Nebraska won the team title with a three-round total of 866, topping Northwestern at 870 and Indiana at 873. Denver was seventh at 876, Colorado 11th at 890.
