Westword is out with its Best of Denver issue Wednesday afternoon – but I have the big scoop right here.

In an unprecedented development, one TV station has won the coveted best hair honors for both male and female anchors.

Fox 31’s morning weatherwoman Crystal Egger wins the female crown, and weekend sports anchor Chris Tanaka gets the male honors.

“The moment the morning forecaster Egger hit Fox 31’s airwaves, her locks made her a lock for this honor,” says Westword.

Egger is new to town – but quickly grasped the meaning of the accolade. “I am honored to have even been noticed,” she says. “It’s great. I’ll have to frame this one. I owe it all to Jennifer Kitzmann, a stylist at Salon Denver.”

Of Tanaka, Westword coos, “Rather than sticking with the typical hair helmet favored by style-challenged on-air males, he rocks a spiky/sexy cut that tells members of the younger demographic that he knows about scoring in every sense of the word.”

“Good grief,” says Tanaka. “I’m speechless, to tell you the truth.”

Westword editor Patty Calhoun notes that when it come to the Readers’ Choice Awards, Denver loved Channel 9’s Kathy Sabine and Steuben’s restaurant. Calhoun says that Sabine is so popular, she could win the upcoming U.S. Senate race, if she campaigned at Steuben’s.

Sabine, of course, was Readers’ Choice for best hair female anchor, and Fox 31’s Ron Zappolo won for Readers’ Choice best hair male anchor.

Old man and the street

Wazee Street at 17th will become Jack Weil Way at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday to honor Jack’s 106th birthday. He’s still running Rockmount Ranch Wear down the block, where he’ll serve lunch to friends and crack old jokes.

Happy birthday – again!

Judy Blue Eyes

Judy Collins was spotted skiing in Aspen last week – before her Sunday night gig at the Paramount. It was a loving concert to a hometown crowd, which included her mom, but she never mentioned a word about the buzz that she’ll be at the Denver Civic Theatre this summer tuning her one-woman show before it hits Broadway in the fall.

So long

9News entertainment guy Kirk Montgomery writes in to say that his pal Terry Dalton died Friday. Dalton was a legend in the local music scene for nearly 25 years. Although he had MS and used a walker and a wheelchair, he never missed running open mic night at Lincoln’s Road House in Wash Park on Wednesday nights. He was the uncle of Jim Dalton of the Railbenders. A celebration of his life will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Three Kings, 60 S. Broadway.
