Colorado Rockies middle reliever Tom Martin will start the season on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin, the club announced Thursday.
The left-handed pitcher was 2-0 last season for the Rockies with a 5.07 ERA in 68 relief appearances. Martin, 36, pitched a career high 60 1/3 innings in 2006, striking out 46 and walking 25.
The Rockies signed Martin to a one-year free agent contract in December.
Martin has also pitched for Houston, Cleveland, New York Mets, Tampa Bay, Los Angeles and Atlanta.
