Sanitarium. Air Force base. Movie set. Hospital. All that’s ancient history for the Lowry neighborhood on Denver’s east side. After the base was decommissioned in 1994, the place where many men and women trained for military service began writing a new chapter as a residential community. Lowry is still plenty respectful of its military roots, but now there are places to live, shop, play and eat that definitely call for more than a fly-by. – Dana Coffield
Getting there: The Lowry neighborhood is on Denver’s eastern edge, bounded by East 11th and Alameda avenues and Quebec and Dayton streets. Town Center is located east of Quebec, off of East First and Second avenues. Pick up a guide to the history and art at Qdoba Mexican Grill in the town center.
