MOO-D ENHANCEMENT
Scottish Angus Cow and Calf
Hindery Family Park at The Denver Art Museum, near the Hamilton Wing, along West 12th Avenue, Denver
The outsized bronze cow and calf commissioned by telecom magnate Leo Hindery for his outsized Larkspur ranch have found a permanent pasture in the lawn at the Denver Art Museum, on down a piece from the huge Louise Bourgeois “Spider,” and the enormous broom and dustpan near the front door. The grand work by Loveland sculptor Dan Ostermiller, the son of a Wyoming taxidermist, is his largest bronze. It honors Colorado’s historic cattle culture and is just kinda fun to look at.
SUDS FOR SUMMER
Cow-shaped soaps / Natural Herb Co., Denver /naturalherbcompany.com
Park Hill CPA Carolyn Collins had been making natural, petroleum-free skin-care products for a couple of years when a friend gave her a cow-shaped mold that got her thinking that little Holstein-shaped soaps needed a place in her line-up. Four years later, she’s got a whole herd of aromatherapeutic soaps, including a sunflower oil-infused bar excellent for Colorado’s dry climate, and a bug-off version, infused with eucalyptus and lavender, that she promises will keep even the grubbiest summer camper clean. And for the looming hiking boot season, she’s got tubs of peppermint foot balm that will keep your tootsies smooth and sweet-smelling even in the sweatiest circumstances.
