Getting your player ready...

Atlanta – Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn and Air Force coach Jeff Bzdelik said they did not talk Saturday as originally scheduled and plan to meet about CU’s vacancy sometime this week.

The failure to meet is curious, because the Final Four coincides with the National Association of Basketball Coaches convention – where many schools and coaches negotiate.

“We want to make sure all the proper leadership is represented from the university,” Bohn said.

Bzdelik arrived in Atlanta on Friday but left by early Saturday afternoon.

“I saw my player play in the all-star game and I’m going home right now,” Bzdelik said. Senior Dan Nwaelele played in the NABC College All-Star Game Friday in Atlanta.

Bohn said he had no indication that Bzdelik had talked to any other schools about their openings, but did have a Plan B in place if Bzdelik stays at Air Force or takes a different job.

Bzdelik led AFA to a 50-16 record the past two seasons and is a former Nuggets head coach. Bohn would not say how optimistic he is about announcing Bzdelik as the next coach of the Buffaloes.

“I think until the process is complete, it’s inappropriate to comment on a specific coach or what the odds are,” Bohn said.

Hoyas in halftime hole

Georgetown found a halftime deficit it could not overcome. The Hoyas trailed Ohio State 27-23 at the break in Saturday night’s Final Four semifinal – the fourth straight game they trailed at the break. The last time the Hoyas led after 20 minutes was in their first-round win over Belmont, when they led 38-25 at halftime.

Georgetown finally ran out of comebacks, falling 67-60 to the No. 1-seeded Buckeyes.

“We try not to trail at the half in games,” said Hoyas sophomore Jessie Sapp. “We try to play our game of basketball and be up in both halves. The past games we came back, but in this one we didn’t.”

The Hoyas did rally and led 34-33 early in the second half. The game was tied for the last time at 44-44 with 9:45 left.
