Two CSU recruits to meet with new coach

Colorado State early basketball signees Shane Edwards and Omar Leary, coming off a 34-2 season at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, will meet with new Rams coach Tim Miles this week for the first time. Their coach at NJC, Eddie Trenkle, said the players have drawn renewed recruiting interest since the staff change at CSU and the Plainsmen finished seventh in the national tournament.

“They are still committed to CSU,” Trenkle said. “People have shown interest. I told them they signed with CSU and need to talk to the new coach.”

Although letters of intent are binding with a school, not the coaching staff, there is a mechanism to release fall signees after a coaching change. Trenkle’s predecessor at NJC, Brian Joyce, was a member of the CSU staff and was let go when coach Dale Layer was fired.
