Left Hand Oak-Aged Imperial Stout, $11.99 for 750ml bottle

It’s big, it’s black and it’s bold. Left Hand Brewing in Longmont is out with its 2007 Oak Aged Imperial Stout, a whopping portion of malt aromas, velvet flavors of chocolate, coffee and fruit, and a satin mouthfeel. This is one hearty baby.

It’s a more mature version of the brewery’s Imperial Stout. Twenty-five percent of this one is aged in oak wine barrels for eight months, blended then bottle conditioned. It’s big, thanks to an alcohol content of 10.4 percent (by volume).

The limited-edition brew – it’ll be gone by the end of May – is being distributed in Colorado and 16 other states.
