Adams County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested two students from Ranum High School after they made credible threats to “shoot the place up,” authorities say.
The teens, a girl and a boy, made the threats Friday at the Westminster high school, 2401 W. 80th Ave.
Deputies learned of the threats today, said Sheriff Doug Darr.
Ranum is closed for spring break this week.
Deputies made the arrest after the two students warned a friend not to come to school Monday following the break, Darr said.
Sheriff’s deputies notified school officials and updated them on the progress of the investigation, he said.
“The threats were determined to be credible and the juveniles were located and arrested,” Darr said. “We take threats of this nature very seriously. We will continue to do everything possible to apprehend those who threaten the safety of our children or members of our community.”
Both juveniles are now in custody at the Adams County Juvenile Detention Facility and face charges of “interference with staff, faculty, or students of educational institutions.”
The charge is a Class 1 misdemeanor and carries a possible penalty of up to 18 months in jail and a fine of up to $5,000.
