About 600 people packed St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Holly today to say goodbye to Rosemary Rosales Puga who died when a tornado struck without warning March 28.

Mourners remembered her as a good wife, mother, sister and daughter.

“She was a good person,” said Shaina Garcia, 21, of Pueblo, a cousin of Rosales Puga.

She said the standing-room-only crowd brought her comfort.

“There were a lot of people here to support the family and everybody.”

The force of the tornado swept Rosales Puga, 29, her common-law husband Gustavo Puga and their 3-year-old daughter Noelia into a nearby tree. Rosales Puga died the next morning at a Colorado Springs hospital.

The tornado that raged through Holly, a small southeastern town near the Colorado-Kansas border, destroyed 48 residences, including the Pugas’ mobile home.
