Dave Eicher, boys basketball coach at Columbine in Class 5A Jefferson County, resigned Friday, citing the need for more family time.
In six seasons, the Rebels were 78-59 and earned the 5A Jeffco League’s sportsmanship award in every season.
Sarah Foote, formerly of Pomona, has been named offensive soccer player of the year at Drake.
The Bulldogs were 12-6-2 in winning the Missouri Valley regular-season and conferencetournament crowns. Foote led the team with 29 points, including setting a Drake season scoring record with 12 goals.
She also was named MVP of the conference.
The Colorado Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Okla., will induct five new members April 28 during an awards banquet at the Air Force Academy’s Officers Club.
Former coaches Bill Byers (Arvada West, Delta, Olathe and Sterling), the late George Kalber (Wasson and Colorado Deaf and Blind) and Linn Long (Colorado, Army, Southern Illinois and Lyons) will be honored with lifetime service to wrestling awards as will the late George Colbert, an official (Jefferson County).
Gregg Carson (state runner- up at 132 pounds for Wray in 1982; a car accident in 1984 left him a quadriplegic) will be presented with the state medal of courage award.
