Presidential contender Tom Tancredo shifted $70,000 from his congressional campaign fund to his White House race, the latest campaign finance filings show.

As he runs for the Republican presidential nomination, Tancredo won’t say whether he’ll run for his congressional seat again. But he moved a good portion of the $190,000 he had in January in the fund he uses to run for re-election to the U.S. House.

Presidential candidates are allowed to move money from their House or Senate campaign funds into presidential funds, and many of them have done so. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., transfered $10 million.

Out of that congressional campaign fund, Tancredo spent another $59,000 on operating costs, including a $12,000 bonus he paid campaign manager Jacqueline Ponder because he won reelection. He spent $9,000 for Christmas cards.

Tancredo took in just one contribution, for $2,100, from a Naples, Fla., resident. That’s about 100 miles from Miami, the city he said resembles a third world country.

Tancredo’s cash on hand in the congressional campaign fund was about $71,000 for the quarter ending March 31.

Tancredo has not yet filed the report for his presidential campaign. He has said it will show about $1.4 million in donations.
