The 11th-ranked Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team broke open a 5-5 halftime tie and scored six unanswered goals in the second half to post a 14-6 victory over Denver in a Great Western Lacrosse League game in South Bend, Ind.
The Irish (8-3, 3-0 GWLL) pulled ahead with an 11-1 run over the final 35 minutes. The Pioneers (7-6, 2-1) went scoreless for nearly 18 minutes to end the game.
Joey Murray had two goals and an assist and Charley Dickenson scored a goal and added two assists to lead Denver. Ryan Hoff and Lucius Polk scored four goals apiece to lead Notre Dame.
Bellarmine (Ky.) University went on a 7-0 run on the first half en route to a 16-10 victory over Air Force in a GWLL game in Louisville, Ky.
The Falcons (2-7, 1-2) never led in the game but kept things close for the first six minutes with a 2-2 tie. Griffin Nevitt scored four goals and Justin Kuchta added three for Air Force, which went on a 3-0 run to begin the second half to make the score 11-6. The Knights (3-9, 1-3) got three goals apiece from John Kirk and Dylan MacDougal.
Local divers make mark at Spring Nationals
Sean Moore of Regis High School and Drew Brown of Grandview High School qualified for the semifinal round of the 2007 USA Diving Spring National Championships after successful preliminary rounds in Germantown, Md. Moore, a senior who will dive at Ohio State in the fall, finished atop the field in the 3-meter springboard event and was fourth in the 1-meter. Brown, a senior who will compete at Minnesota, finished fifth in the 3-meter and 12th in the 1-meter.
