The winner: Monika Cary, Kremmling
Back in 1997, a local sculptor, Kim Woog, hand-forged this mustang and it is currently displayed at the south entrance to West Grand High School. It is TIG-welded out of stainless steel and weighs approximately 200 pounds. It is called a direct metal sculpture. We have lived in Kremmling for five years and are continually surprised at the quality of artists that live in and around the Grand County area.
Back in the day: Matt Sherwin, Aurora
The Mustang is the school mascot. I graduated from West Grand in 1989, although at that time the sculpture was not yet in place. The horse head could either be a stallion or a mare considering that both girls and boys athletics have proud histories. The picture shows my boys near the helicopter that is displayed near U.S. 40 in front of the school.
