East Rutherford, N.J. – Jozy Altidore scored for the second straight game and Ronald Waterreus posted his second shutout to lead the New York Red Bulls to a 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on Saturday night.
The Red Bulls (2-0-1), who have not allowed a goal this season, had several chances to score. However, the 17-year- old Altidore got the only goal in the 60th minute when he took a pass from Hunter Freeman, spun around and fired a shot past Houston goalkeeper Pat Onstad.
“He’s still got a long way to go, so we need to be patient,” Red Bulls coach Bruce Arena said. “I’m real happy about the way he’s started, but we have to wean him properly.”
Houston (1-1-1) managed just one shot on goal. That came in the 33rd minute, when Paul Dalglish broke free of two defenders, but his shot sailed wide.
FIRE 2, WIZARDS 1 at Bridgeview, Ill.: Chad Barrett and Chris Rolfe scored for Chicago.
Chicago took a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute. Rolfe sent a ball over the halfway mark to Chris Armas, who turned and advanced the ball, then passed to Barrett. The forward went upfield, beating a Wizards defender and taking a shot to the left of goalkeeper Kevin Hartman.
Rolfe gave Chicago a 2-0 lead in the 74th minute, sending a penalty kick into the lower-left corner of the net.
Kansas City’s Nick Garcia took down Ivan Guerrero in the box, resulting in a penalty kick.
Carlos Marinelli scored on a penalty kick for the Wizards in the 90th minute. Diego Gutierrez took down Marinelli in the box, causing the penalty.
CHIVAS USA 4, REAL SALT LAKE 0 at Carson, Calif.: Maykel Galindo scored two goals in the first nine minutes and Ante Razov scored his 100th career MLS goal to lead Chivas USA.
