Think of these paintings as the gift that keeps on giving – first as the focus of a state waterfowl stamp program that raises valuable funds for wildlife management and now as a centerpiece for a major conservation effort.

Six entries in the 2006 and 2007 Colorado Duck Stamp competitions will be auctioned by Ducks Unlimited at a May 11 extravaganza called, appropriately, “The Originals.”

The focus will be a live auction of the original paintings by noted artists, including the 2007 winning painting by Jeffrey Klinefelter of a pair of hooded mergansers, along with the official 2006 stamp portrait.

Framing for the paintings has been donated by Great Western Art Gallery. Companion live and silent auctions will include wildlife prints, gear and guided hunts.

The 6-9 p.m. event at the Denver Museum of Science features a social hour, dinner and a keynote address by former Colorado state Sen. Tilman Bishop.

Proceeds will benefit waterfowl wetlands projects in Colorado. Cost is $100 single, $150 couple. For reservations, call 303-894-4430.
