It takes a place like Boulder and a person like Gary Neptune to fully appreciate a mind like that of Steph Davis. Fortunately, Boulder has Neptune Mountaineering, which will host Davis on Thursday at 8 p.m. as she offers insight into the soul of one of the planet’s most dedicated climbers. The public is invited to join Davis for a free multimedia presentation of slides, video, music and stories from her new book, “High Infatuation: A Climber’s Guide to Love and Gravity,” and her coming- of-age tale in the climbing world. The wife of climbing guru Dean Potter and the second woman to free-climb El Capitan in one day, Davis understands as well as anyone the unique challenges of a career climber, both on and off the rock. She shares them through her book and in person. The program gets underway at 633 S. Broadway (in the Table Mesa Shopping Center) just after the store shuts down.

(Davis also will be in Fort Collins on Wednesday, speaking at Colorado State University’s Lory Student Center, North Ballroom, at 7:30 p.m.)
