The Colorado State Patrol is investigating an accident that killed two men in Douglas County.

The accident happened about 4 p.m. Monday at the intersection of U.S. 85 and Happy Canyon Road, authorities said.

A red Nissan Pathfinder driven by Miguel Rodriguez-Padilla made a left turn into the path of a tan 2002 Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by Richard Fell, 54, of Sedalia, the State Patrol said in a news release.

One male passenger in the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. Another male passenger in the Nissan was pronounced dead at Swedish Medical Center. Neither man has been identified.

Rodriguez-Padilla suffered serious injuries and was taken to Littleton Hospital. Fell suffered moderate injuries and was treated at Sky Ridge Hospital.

Happy Canyon Road was closed for a time after the accident.
