After being named the NBA’s defensive player of the year last week, Marcus Camby seemed to be a natural choice to make the league’s all-defensive first team, which was announced today.
Camby, who is getting ready for tonight’s Game 4 at the Pepsi Center against San Antonio, was named to the first team for the first time in his 11-year career. He twice has been picked for the second team.
“Honestly, besides winning a championship, that was the only other goal I had,” Camby said after today’s shootaround.
Also named to the first team were San Antonio Spurs forwards Tim Duncan and Bruce Bowen, Phoenix Suns guard Raja Bell and Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant.
Footnotes
Reggie Evans will not be at tonight’s game. The Nuggets guard, who has yet to play in the series, will be in Florida for his grandmother’s funeral. … In case you missed it, the Conoco at the Pepsi Center will base its gas prices Tuesday morning on how many points the Nuggets score tonight. From 6-8 a.m., up to 10 gallons will be allowed based on the Nuggets final points (95 points means 95 cents per gallon, etc.).
