Just in case you’ve always wanted to attend a Kentucky Derby Party but didn’t know where to find one, eighth-generation Kentuckian Frank Hargett has a plan for you.

The Colorado chapter of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association will have its 40th annual Kentucky Derby Party from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Cool River Cafe, 8000 E. Belleview Ave. in Greenwood Village.

For $35 per person, fellow Kentuckians (and those would-be Kentuckians for a day) can participate in a raffle and a ladies fancy-hat competition, buy traditional Derby Day chocolate chip pie and belly up to the bar for mint juleps served in souvenir Kentucky Derby glasses (which will be available for purchase).

If you didn’t make advance reservations you’re out of luck for dinner, but that same $35 also entitles you to settle in at the restaurant’s 10-foot screen to watch what Hargett calls “the most exciting two minutes in sports.”
