University of Colorado women’s tennis coach Nicole Kenneally was named Big 12 coach of the year, and sophomore Monica Milewski was named to the all-Big 12 singles team, as selected by the league’s head coaches.
Milewski, who won 25 singles matches this season, was one of three women unanimously voted. The Buffaloes finished third in the Big 12 under Kenneally, their highest placement since finishing second in 1999, and received a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in team history. The Buffs will face Michigan in the first round of the tournament May 12 in South Bend, Ind.
Buffs’ Sanders on Rimington list
Daniel Sanders, a junior guard/center for the University of Colorado football team, is one of 46 finalists for the Rimington Trophy.
Awarded each year to the most outstanding center in college football, the Rimington Trophy winner is selected by determining the consensus All-America center pick from four All-America teams.
Former East softball player shining in SWAC
Mississippi Valley State won its fourth straight Southwestern Athletic Conference softball tournament, led by East High School graduate Shaina Mitchell, who was named the tournament’s most outstanding player.
Mitchell, an outfielder, finished the four-day tournament 8-for-14 at the plate with two home runs, five runs scored, four RBIs and three doubles for the Devilettes.
