Roger Clemens – he of the seven Cy Young Awards and 44 1/2-year-old pitching arm – is rejoining the New York Yankees.

Clemens signed a $28 million, one-year contract, which will kick in when he joins the major-league roster; he’ll start his season in the minors. Clemens is expected to earn about $18.5 million for this season, once he makes it to the bigs in three to four weeks.

“Make no mistake about it, I’ve come back to do what they only know how to do here with the Yankees, and that’s win a championship,” Clemens said. “Anything else is a failure, and I know that.”

This is the third time the Rocket has come out of retirement – he did so in 2004 and 2005, to re-sign with the Houston Astros both times. Clemens said he would only return to baseball this time with the Yankees, Astros or Boston Red Sox.
