Golden – The Jefferson County Courts and Administration Building was evacuated shortly before 4:30 p.m. today when a suspicious backpack was turned in.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s bomb squad was called when someone found the backpack in a parking lot and brought it to the lobby desk, leaving without saying anything, said sheriff’s spokesman Jim Shires.

The court security deputies took the backpack and ran it through the security scanner and thought “it didn’t look right,” Shires said.

Bomb squad members examined the contents and found them to be personal items with no explosives.

Employees and visitors were allowed to retrieve their cars from the the parking lot shortly after 6 p.m.
