CSU-Pueblo golfer Hedrick makes NCAAs
Western New Mexico won the Northwest/West Super Regional on Wednesday at Fox Hollow Golf Course in Lakewood and Andrew Hedrick of Colorado State-Pueblo qualified for the NCAA Division II championships as medalist.
Hedrick shot a final-round 3-under-par 68 for a 5-under 208 total, two shots better than Marcus Molina of Western New Mexico. The Mustangs won the team competition with a 3-over 855, 12 strokes ahead of Colorado- Colorado Springs. Hedrick and the Mustangs qualified for the Division II championships, May 22 at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich.
Metro St. shocks Mesa St. in RMAC opener
No. 6 seed Metro State (16-33) upset top-seeded Mesa State (45-11) with a 7-5 victory on the first day of the double-elimination Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference baseball playoffs in Grand Junction. Braden Ham pitched a complete game, striking out nine and allowing 11 hits to lead the Roadrunners.
Also, No. 5 seed Regis jumped to a 6-0 lead over No. 2 Colorado State-Pueblo and held on for a 9-6 victory. Right fielder Max Regalado went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, and starting pitcher Craig Deaver struck out seven over seven innings to lead the Rangers.
No. 3 New Mexico Highlands got eight strong innings from pitcher Evan White, who allowed four runs on 11 hits, in a 6-4 win over No. 4 Nebraska-Kearney.
