EchoStar Communications reported today that its profit increased 6.8 percent during the first quarter as the company added 310,000 net new subscribers to its Dish Network satellite-TV service.

The Douglas County-based company posted net income of $157 million, or 35 cents a share during the first quarter, up from $147 million, or 33 cents a share, during the same quarter in 2006.

The company had revenue of $2.64 billion for the quarter, up from $2.3 billion during the first quarter of 2006.

Dish ended the quarter with 13.415 million subscribers.
