If Barbie married an iPod …
While Barbie Girl isn’t Mattel’s first attempt to turn Barbie into a tech object, it is perhaps the most intriguing. Basically, Barbie Girl is a doll-shaped gadget that plays MP3 tunes and provides online computer access to a secure world where girls can create characters, design rooms, play games and chat with other girls. And because this is Barbie, after all, each gadget comes with essential accessories, including an extra outfit, a belt clip, ear buds and a docking station for the computer. Loaded with 512 megabytes of memory and a mini-SD slot, the dolled-up gadget will go on sale in July for $60. Accessory packs (art deco beads, earrings, backcover and pet charms) are $10 each. www.barbiegirls.com

Design your own pic book
MyPublisher makes it easy for digital shutterbugs to create polished mementos of weddings, graduations and other events. Using the company’s free Bookmaker 2.1 software, you can drag and drop photos onto themed layout pages, which the company will then turn into a professional-looking book. Better yet, the updated program has new tools that can help you design a glossy jacket cover for your book. A 20-page 11.25-inch-by-8.75-inch linen hardcover book costs about $30, plus $5 for the optional jacket. A 20-page 15-inch-by-11.5-inch linen hardcover volume costs about $60, plus $9 for the jacket. Other styles are available.
