Grand Junction – A former Western Slope elementary school teacher who pleaded guilty to drug charges was being held without bond after she was arrested on a warrant for failure to comply, authorities said.

Tammie Lee Reed, 42, was arrested Sunday and booked into the Mesa County Jail. It was Reed’s fifth arrest in the past 19 months.

Reed provided a urine sample April 20 to the Mesa County Criminal Justice Services Department. That sample tested positive for methamphetamine, Deputy District Attorney Jon Levin said.

The test came two days after Reed pleaded guilty to theft, and possession of methamphetamine, both felonies. She was later freed on a pair of personal recognizance bonds worth $17,500.

Her arrest could threaten a proposed plea agreement on those charges, giving Mesa County District Attorney Pete Hautzinger the opportunity to withdraw the deal. It was not clear Monday, however, whether he would make that decision.

The agreement called for Reed to serve up to two years in a work-release program along with probation.

Reed had been a first-grade teacher at Lincoln Orchard Mesa Elementary School, but was fired last October.

Sentencing on the original charges was scheduled for June 18.

She was being held without bond today.
