Getting your player ready...

Despite playing five of their first seven games on the road, the New England Revolution (4-1-2) is leading the league with 14 points and 14 goals.

Striker Taylor Twellman leads the league with six goals, two of them coming last Saturday at Los Angeles, including the game winner in the 85th minute moments after the Galaxy tied the score at 2-2.

The Revs play yet another road game this week at Houston, a rematch of last year’s MLS Cup championship game, which Houston won on penalty kicks.

Faint Galaxy

With Los Angeles struggling (1-2-1), the club is promising changes. There is speculation they may reacquire Carlos Ruiz in a trade with Dallas. He had played for L.A. from 2002-04 and was an unexcused no-show for two Dallas practices last week.

The Galaxy looked like it would earn a tie Saturday after defender Tyrone Marshall scored in the 84th minute to make it 2-2, but Twellman scored the game winner 20 seconds after the ensuing kickoff.

Oh, those Canadians

Toronto newspapers were quick to credit Toronto F.C. forward Danny Dichio for a “Gordie Howe” hat trick (a goal, a fight and an ejection) Saturday after he scored the first goal in club history, scrapped with Chicago goalkeeper Matt Pickens later in the game and earned a red card.

The expansion Toronto franchise won its first game after four losses.

Missing Haynes

Why did Altitude have New York commentators for the Rapids game vs. the Red Bulls Sunday? Shortly before the telecast Rapids play-by-play man Mike Haynes learned his father had passed away.

Around the league

The Kansas City Wizards, who visit Dick’s Sporting Goods Park Saturday, saw a three-game winning streak end last week with their first home loss, 2-1 to F.C. Dallas & The Red Bulls drew only 7,802 fans for the Rapids game despite the MLS debut of their expensive new striker, Juan Pablo Angel. Probably just as well, since they got outworked in a 1-0 loss … New England’s Steve Ralston played in his 318th MLS game Saturday, breaking the league record held by former Rapids player Chris Henderson.
