Eric Robinson and Cole Worsley posted the fastest times in two preliminary races to set the pace Thursday at the Class 4A state high school boys swimming diving championships.

Robinson, a senior from D’Evelyn, swam the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 43.24 seconds. He also was fastest in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.08.

Worsley, a sophomore from Moffat County, was No. 1 in the 50 free (22.13) and 100 free (48.02). Cheyenne Mountain’s Alex Walpole was second to Robinson in the 200 free and second to Worsley in the 100 free. Other pacesetters were Ralston Valley’s Clay Myers (200 individual medley), Thompson Valley’s Drew McCormick (500 free), Pueblo County’s Bryan Roth (100 backstroke) and Cherokee Trail’s Jeremy Allison (100 breastroke). The finals will begin at 5 p.m. Friday.

No finals were held or team points awarded during the first day of the two-day meet at Edora Pool Ice Center.
