LAKEWOOD, Colo.-
George Washington High School swept the boys and girls championships Saturday at the Colorado Class 5A Track and Field Championships held at Jefferson County Stadium.
The GW boys won convincingly by an 88-55 margin over runner-up Palmer. Overland was third with 47 points.
The girls team competition was closer. George Washington edged out Rocky Mountain, 74-55. Rampart finished third with 47 1-2 points.
George Washington’s boys got individual titles from Michael Hancock and Joe Harris, and a title in the 800-meter relay.
Hancock won the 110 meter hurdles in 14.22 seconds, and Harris jumped 47 feet, 1 1-2 inches to win the triple jump. The GW 800 meter relay team won with a time of 1:25.59.
In the girls competition, Ashley Cruder, Monica Green won for GW. Cruder sprinted to a victory in the 100 meters in 11.82 seconds and Green won the 400 in 56.66 seconds.
Its relay teams won the 800 meter medley relay in 1:46.10, the 800 meter relay in 1:38.09 and the 400 meter relay in 46.51 seconds.
Fairview High School’s Sarah Cocco completed a weekend of four first-place finishes. Cocco won the 800-meter race in 2:08.50 and the 3,200 meters in 11:02.66 Saturday. She won the 1,600 and ran a leg for the winning 3,200 relay team Friday.
