Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Alberto Callaspo was activated off the restricted list and rejoined the team Saturday, nine days after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife.
In a statement released by the team, club president Derrick Hall said a counselor met with Callaspo on Friday “and found the player fit for work but recommended he undergo counseling.”
Red Sox: Boston placed right-hander Josh Beckett on the disabled list, and recalled righty Devern Hansack from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Marlins: Florida placed starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco on the 15-day DL because of right elbow inflammation and purchased the contract of pitcher Justin Miller from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Rangers: Texas placed infielder Jerry Hairston Jr. on the 15-day DL because of a pinched nerve in his neck and called up left-handed pitcher John Koronka from Triple-A Oklahoma.
Indians: Third baseman Andy Marte was activated from the DL and outfielder Franklin Gutierrez was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo.
Reds: Rookie outfielder Josh Hamilton was taken to a hospital early Saturday with a stomach problem, which was diagnosed as gastroenteritis.
Cubs: Kerry Wood plans to throw a baseball for the first time in nearly two months Monday, the latest step in yet another comeback attempt by the injury-plagued right-hander.
