Thornton police are conducting an inquiry into allegations of a conflict of interest by Lt. Lori Moriarty, aunt of Tyler Carron.
The Colorado State Patrol’s accident-reconstruction report shows Moriarty asked to be involved in the investigation, and held the camera for a videotaped re-enactment.
The investigator also wrote that Moriarty called to question his findings about the placement of her nephew’s SUV in the road at the time of the accident.
“I stress if it’s been determined that regulations of the Police Department have been violated, then appropriate action will be taken,” Thornton Police Chief Jim Nursey said Tuesday.
Moriarty declined to comment.
Col. Mark Trostel, head of the Colorado State Patrol, said Tuesday he will look into his department’s policies in light of Moriarty’s involvement in their accident investigation.
