Denver not in Big 12’s postseason plans
Denver won’t be hosting a Big 12 Conference championship football game or men’s and women’s conference basketball tournaments anytime soon.
Big 12 commissioner Kevin Weiberg said TuesdayWednesday during the league’s summer meeting at The Broadmoor that Denver did not submit a bid for the events. The Big 12 invited site proposals for the five-year period that begins with the 2008-2009 academic year.

Ritzenhein’s win benefits kidney foundation
After winning Saturday’s Healthy Kidney 10-kilometer road race in New York’s Central Park, former University of Colorado runner Dathan Ritzenhein donated his first- place check of $7,500 to the National Kidney Foundation.
“It was an amazing race and an incredible event, and it is about a cause that is really close to me,” said Ritzenhein, who set the Central Park 10K record with a time of 28 minutes, 8 seconds. “Kidney disease runs in my family. Both my grandfather and mom have had kidney surgery before. My mom will probably have a second surgery to follow up in another year or two.”
Ritzenhein didn’t walk away empty-handed, though. Breaking the record netted him a $20,000 bonus.
