Getting your player ready...

Sure, you can try to round up tickets to the sold-out summer Shawn Colvin-John Hiatt concert at the Denver Botanic Gardens, and expect to pay dearly. Or, you could head to Snowmass Village with a blanket and a picnic and see the pair in concert at Fanny Hill for free at 6 p.m. Aug. 4. (And just so you know, the village just spent around $200,000 spiffing up the sound system at the outdoor amphitheater.) Whether you decide to hit one of the other Summer of Free Music Series concerts, typically Thursdays at 6 p.m., July 6-Aug. 31, or plunk down $15 for tickets to the fourth annual Snowmass Chili Pepper & Brew Fest, June 8-10, you’ll find plenty to do to fill out the rest of your stay. Get the full schedule at snowmassvillage.com.

Getting there: Snowmass Village is south of Colorado 82 on Brush Creek Road, between Aspen and Basalt.
