“We were very close. Growing up, he was one of my best friends. Someone I would go to for advice if I was having trouble with any one of my friends or any of my family members. He’d offer me advice – usually tell me to grow up and view the bigger things in life. He was my rock.
“(His death is) a really difficult thing. The media covers you for a week or two, and there’s a lot of support from the community. But a year later, a lot of people don’t talk to me about it anymore.
“They don’t know how to come to me, and they don’t know what to say. It’s just something I’ll live with the rest of my life that will affect me just as much as it did June 7.”
